Celebrate lesbian art and culture with artists Fern Smith and Kirsten Wolf.
‘Tides Turn’ is the new body of art works by artists Fern Smith from and Kirsten Wolf who are breaking down invisibility and stereotyping of lesbian culture.
The exhibition at Breathing Colours Gallery Art will be opened by the legendary queer Sydney photographer Tina Fiveash on Saturday 3 September.
The two artists aim to present a queer take on mermaids with ‘Tides Turn’. Both Smith and Wolf are multi-disciplinary and digital art experts and the exhibit includes a selected collection of drawings, digital art prints and watercolour on paper and cotton.
Also at the exhibit will be a large format colouring in book by Wolf and free introductory workshops on puppetry, book binding and colouring in.
Although the two have previously exhibited together in a group show at ANCA Gallery in Canberra, they discovered via social media that they were both working on images of mermaids.
Smith and Wolf both celebrate lesbian art and culture as they engage in the broader conversation about lesbians in myths and legends through their wonder filled queer take on mermaids.
