The American Rock trio will return in a monolithic Opera House performance in March.
Celebrating twenty years since recording their debut album, Sleater-Kinney will return to Australian shores in March. The pioneering rock trio return from their decade-long hiatus, transforming the Concert Hall into a sweatbox of raw power anthems and feminist lyricism from their critically acclaimed comeback album, No Cities to Love .
Leaving their radical riot grrrl-inspired legacy on the cusp of mainstream success, the band's incendiary mix of the personal and the political has left a blazing hole in indie-rock.
They have kept busy during their hiatus. Carrie Brownstein (guitar, vocals) wrote and starred in the Emmy-winning television series Portlandia, with Saturday Night alumnus Fred Armisen. Meanwhile, Corin Tucker (vocals, guitar) released two critically acclaimed solo albums, and drummer Janet Weiss played in various bands, including Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and Wild Flag. Readily regarded as the feminist successors of Patti Smith and Kim Gordon, the trio secretly reconvened for two years of basement rehearsing and recording before placing the music world into hysterical overdrive with the new album.
Instilling the juggernaut dynamics of 2005’s The Woods with buzzsaw guitars and Tucker's bleedingly tense refrains, the Pacific Northwest mainstays are now at the height of their live powers. Performing their largest shows yet all over North America and Europe, one of America's greatest rock bands to survive the century return revitalised for a career-spanning Concert Hall debut in only their third appearance on Australian shores.
