12 must see films are on the schedule this year.

The second half of 2016 will deliver some exceptionally high calibre queer films and documentaries. With 12 films on schedule for this year, you won’t want to miss the festival. 

Beginning on 20 September and spanning 6 days, the 12 fantastic queer films span the whole LGBTQ rainbow. 

Queer Screen Film Fest will also be taking a select number of films to Canberra and the Blue Mountains in the weeks following the festival. 

A special screening of The Queen Of Ireland will be held on Tuesday 30th August in efforts to raise money for Australian Marriage Equality, Queer Screen, ACON, Transmission Films and Dendy Cinemas.

Almost Adults (Friday 23 Sept, 8.30pm)

In this fun comedy, BFFs Mackenzie and Cassie find they are drifting apart. Mackenzie is finally ready to come out but discovers that everyone already knew. Well, everyone except Cassie.

Other People ( Tuesday 20 Sept, 7pm)

A small-town cancer comedy about a gay son (Jesse Plemons) who comes home to take care of his dying mom. Molly Shannon (SNL) stands out as the mother – alternating between humour and tragedy, she excels in portraying the tender and funny moments between the agony of cancer and chemo. 

First Girl I Loved (Wednesday 21 Sept, 7pm)

17 year old cool nerd Anne falls for the school softball star Sasha, in this Sundance-award-winning and incredibly authentic lesbian coming-of-age film.

The Handmaiden (Thursday 22 Sept, 6.15pm)

In 1930s Korea, tasked with a secret plan, petty thief Sookee begins work as handmaiden to Lady Hideko. A game of deception and seduction soon pervades this erotic lesbian thriller.

The Intervention (Sunday 25 Sept, 6pm)

Out actress Clea Duvall reunites with Natasha Lyonne and Melanie Lynskey of But I’m a Cheerleader in this crowd pleasing, uproarious comedy about love, secrets and the complexities of adult relationships.
