It’s 2015, and while the rest of the developed world is evolving to provide full equality for all of it’s citizens Australia is falling behind. We still don’t have marriage equality. Same-sex couples deserve and are entitled to the same rights as everyone else. Failure to allow same-sex marriage says that it's okay to discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender.

A society that doesn't grant equal rights to all of its citizens needs to stop and think. These are our kids, our parents, our friends, and our neighbours, fighting for equal recognition in the eyes of the law.

72% of Australians support marriage equality. The people of Australia are ready, but our politicians are leaving us behind. Australia is the only major English-speaking nation that does not allow same-sex marriage anywhere within it’s boarders.

A cross-party same-sex marriage bill will be introduced when federal parliament resumes on August 11th. A week later on August 18th, The Liberal party room will decide whether to hold a conscience vote on the issue. It is unclear whether the Liberal Party will back a free vote, but such a vote would give the bill the best chance of passing.

What can you do to help?

Write a letter to your member of parliament, expressing your support of same-sex marriage and urging for a free vote.
Get loud on social media, share this video, news segments and content supporting marriage equality.
Spark the conversation in your community, your school, your office, and your family.

Countries that have already legalised same-sex marriage include: USA, Ireland, United Kingdom, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Brazil, Norway, Canada, Argentina, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Mexico, Finland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Uruguay.

Australia needs change. Provide social justice for our population. Legalise marriage equality now.
