Aurora has given over $25,000 to six community organisations as part of their 2015 Small Grants program.

The Aurora Group is a charity that focuses on raising funds to disburse to gay, lesbian, and transgender community organisations. The money raised through The Aurora Group goes to benefit the entire community as a whole instead of one specific cause.

The Aurora Small Grants program provides up to $5,000 for projects that support the LGBTI community in New South Wales.

Aurora chairperson Alison King said, “We are thrilled about the quality of this year’s grants applications. The generosity of Aurora’s donors and supporters has allowed us to support projects for LGBTIQ youth in Newcastle, men seeking the expungement of historical homosexual offences, and same sex attracted women facing cancer risks – just to name a few.”

The projects funded by the 2015 Small Grants program include:

1. The Inner City Legal Centre:

a community campaign and legal assistance around the expungement of historical homosexual offences.

2. Headspace Newcastle:

a support and social group for under 18 LGBTIQ youth in Newcastle.

3. Family Resource and Network Support (FRANS):

support for young people with an intellectual disability to participate in the Rainbow Bridge Social Club, in association with Twenty10.

4. ACON:

a campaign to highlight cancer risk issues, particularly for lesbian and same sex attracted women.

5. WayAhead – Mental Health Association NSW:

a GLBT anxiety disorder support group.

6. OutStanding Short Story Competition:

support for the OutStanding LGBTIQ Short Story Competition.

In addition to the Small Grants program, Aurora’s major grants recipient is Twenty10 incorporating the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service.
