Hailing from Southern California this all-female alt-rock quartet, The Cold and Lovely is a band on the rise in 2014
The brainchild of singer-guitarist-producer Meghan Toohey (The Weepies, Lenka, Schuyler Fisk) and bassist Nicole Fiorentino (Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, Spinnerette) has recently released the ‘Ellis Bell’ EP as a follow up to their 2011 self-titled debut. The pair were driven to form The Cold and Lovely as an outlet to realize the ethereal melodies and sonic landscapes that both musicians loved and wanted to incorporate into their own songwriting.
Last November, The Cold and Lovely released a six-song EP (mixed and mastered by Dave Cooley Silversun Pickups/M83) entitled, ‘Ellis Bell’ to much acclaim. With the ears and the mind of both a producer and songwriter, Toohey expressed that in creating the songs for the EP she “dug really deep into albums that changed my life… I tried to pinpoint what I loved about the guitar tones and production. I wanted there to be a grit to this record that I hadn’t truly expressed the way I wanted to on the first record.”
Of ‘Ellis Bell,’ Kevin Bronson of LABuzzbands.com raves, “Owing to the muscular shoegazers and arena-hopping anthemic rockers of the 1990s, the three-piece follows up last year’s self-titled LP with an audacious six-pack of songs made to be played ear-bleedingly loud.”
