Popular drag and cabaret artist, Trevor Ashley, will frock up once more for a role in the major musical, Hairspray. Following on in the footsteps of John Travolta and Harvey Weinstein, Ashley will play the coveted role of Hairspray’s momma figure, Edna Turnblad.
Set to open in Melbourne this October, Hairspray the musical is based upon the cult film-reviews by John Waters which starred Rikki Lake and was successfully revisited several years ago as a musical featuring Travolta, and Zac Ephron.
Most recently Ashley was seen singing up a storm during Brissie pride week and is set to play a cabaret season at the Sydney Opera House next month… He is best known for his drag alter ego – Cleopatra Coupe and for his role as Miss Understanding in the Stephan Elliot musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
