This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sydney Food & Wine Fair in support of the AIDS Trust of Australia.
The Sydney Food & Wine Fair has grown as an expression of giving and the event is now large enough to fill Hyde Park North. The Fair is a charitable fundraiser made possible by the extraordinary generousity and enthusiasm of stallholders, volunteers, sponsors, entertainers, suppliers and of course, patrons.
The AIDS Trust of Australia initiates and funds national projects that help prevent HIV transmission in the Australian community. We dream of zero transmission, but the reality is 20 Australians are diagnosed HIV+ every week. They are from all walks of life.
Since 1981, 66 million people, 1% of the world’s population have been diagnosed with HIV, and this number continues to grow. Half have died. Similarly, since 1981, more than 27 thousand Australians, more than 1% of our population has been diagnosed with HIV. Again, this number continues to grow and half have died. There is no vaccine or cure for HIV. Many new areas of concern are emerging.
By participating in the Sydney Food & Wine Fair you are helping to make the dream of zero HIV transmission Australia’s reality.
