To celebrate people of every colour of the rainbow, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras have invested some serious time and resources into creating a vibing experience specifically for women and gender-diverse communities at Mardi Gras Party, Saturday 1 March, 2014
The mutli-sensory experience will take over The Hi-Fi at the Entertainment Quarter and includes everything from scenic design and lighting to entertainment – live music, burlesque and out there queer performances.
Curated by Mardi Gras DJ icon DJ Sveta and queen of bent burlesque, Lillian Starr, the musical selection on offer is as diverse as the interests of the lesbian and queer communities – everything from hip hop, trap, booty bass to house and disco.
An all-female DJ lineup including young hotshot Astrix Little spinning everything from booty bass to tech house, legendary hip-hop partystarter YO! M.A.F.I.A., and the multitalented Shalyn Gray on decks and drums.
One half of the creative duo behind it all, DJ Sveta says “Mardi Gras Party is a unique opportunity for all of our diverse communities to come together and celebrate, and Lillian and I are really excited to be curating a major space at the Party which caters to the interests and tastes of women and gender-diverse people.”
“We can’t wait to tell you more about all the amazing artists and performers we are bringing together.. but it’s not all about what we’re doing, we want everyone to tap into the incredible artistic history of the Mardi Gras, get dressed up and bring the Party with them – together we will make this a Mardi Gras to remember!” says Sveta
Since the event’s first announcement last month, tickets to The Party have been flying out the door as Mardi Gras revellers get ready to dance the night away at one of the year’s wildest, sexiest and anticipated parties of the year. Indeed, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras organisers promised a “kaleidoscope” of musical experiences at this year’s Mardi Gras, and with today’s line-up additions, they continue to deliver.
Any other party might stop there, but there are still many more fabulous additions to come in the weeks and months ahead. But Mardi Gras revellers are warned not to delay their ticket purchases! There is only a limited allocation of tickets available at the first release price.
The Mardi Gras Party is a fundraiser for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and Festival.
