The Benevolent Society is very excited to announce the release of its new book for children living in foster care.
“A place in your heart” is aimed at children aged 7-12 and follows the journey of Jesse as she moves into her new home with foster carers Tom and Jake.
The book will have its first public outing at a reading by Gayby Baby director Maya Newel. Maya will also share her own experience of growing up with two mums and making her feature documentary Gayby Baby.
The book is dedicated to all gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, queer, transgender and intersex foster carers who have opened their hearts and homes to children in need.
In Australia, more than 40,000 children live in foster care, more than 18,000 of them in NSW. The Benevolent Society has been at the forefront of welcoming GLBTQI couples and individuals into the experience of creating a loving home for children who need foster care.
