After packing out theatres in Melbourne during Midsumma and Adelaide during the fringe, Candy Royalle returns to Sydney with her cutting edge underground poetry show, Stories By Starlight.
Dreadlocked and colourful Candy Royalle is set to wow festival audiences with her spontaneous musical improvisation, explosive theatrics, burlesque and more – seducing the darker side of the human psyche.
Candy Royalle is one of the must-see stars of Australia’s alternative poetry movement. A young veteran of the festival scene, Royalle is revered by modern-day poets and word-loving audiences for her powerful verse and deep voice. They lend an almost soulful edge to her performances.
Royalle says fans of underground entertainment are in for a real treat. “Stories by Starlight tackles everything from love and sex to social injustice. Expect a journey of self-discovery, some great tunes and even a little burlesque,” she says.
Stories by Starlight sees Royalle team up with three-piece instrumentalists – Sloppy Joe. Royalle layers her rhythmic words and hypnotic voice with the unique sounds of funk, jazz and soul of the trio. The musical improvisation crew are masters of off-the-cuff spontaneity and rich authentic sounds and are certain to add funk and sweetness to Candy’s raw energy. If Patti Smith and the Doors had a baby, it would be Candy Royalle and Sloppy Joe.
Those who know Royalle can count on one thing – some killer words and explosive theatrics. For an evening to remember join Royalle on a journey to the stars.
