How is the Seattle Burlesque different from the rest of the world?
The Seattle Burlesque scene is known for its fantastic sense of humor, great costuming, upscale top-notch evening-length scripted productions, and strong community vibe. Many of the stalwarts of Seattle’s Burlesque scene are women who have also been deeply involved in the theater/dance scene, underground club scenes, and the Queer community – so our “figureheads”, so to speak, are artsy & edgy glamazons.
If you had a motto what would it be?
I think my favorite motto is “how can I best be of service?” My assistant says that my most frequent statement related to my happy life is “clean living and plenty of pussy”.
Who or what inspires you and your work?
My work is often inspired by a joke, conversation, piece of fabric, or snippet of music. Most of my acts come from very unlikely sources. I am also constantly inspired by the Faculty and Staff of my Academy of Burlesque, including Inga Ingenue, Waxie Moon, Polly Wood, Lydia McLane, Elsa Von Schmaltz and Ruby Mimosa. I’m also fortunate to be a troupe member of The Atomic Bombshells, and a cast member of Lily Verlaine Productions – these groups are hotbeds of talent and inspiration.
When did you first discover you had the gift of the twirl?
I started twirling in 2001 and haven’t looked back since.
Who are your heroes?
My contemporary heroes are Midori, Annie Sprinkle, and Bugs Bunny.
What are the most common misconceptions about Burlesque artists/Burlesque?
I’m not sure, I try to follow the words of Lady Gaga, “don’t listen to the haters”.
What is the story behind your name?
“Indigo” was one of the many names I had in my early career as a peep-show stripper. It suited me, so I kept it and Klassed it up a bit with the “Miss” and “Blue”. Blue is also my favorite color.
