After blowing the lid off the Sydney theatre scene last year with The New Electric Ballroom, director Kate Gaul and Siren Theatre Co., will once again wow audiences with another stunning play by multi-award-winning playwright, Enda Walsh.
In true Walsh style, this play is richly worded and the story oscillates between almost farcical comedy to stomach-churning tragedy as the 4 men vie for the attention and affections of the treasure that is Penelope. Under the deft direction of Kate Gaul, Penelope is a vaudevillian, irreverent, poetic work based on the final chapter of Homer’s The Odyssey.
‘Walsh confirms himself as one of the most dazzling wordsmiths of contemporary theatre.” — The Guardian
“Best of all is Enda Walsh’s grandiose Penelope, which mixes classical myth with a bit of Beckett, as interpreted by Father Ted after watching an episode of Lost.” — The Sunday Times
