A playwright set out to bring lesbian stories to the stage in this new production.
Head over to the Tap Gallery in Sydney for a staged reading of The Girls, a new play by playwright and poet Patricia Jones.
The play is woven around the themes of alienation and the denial of one’s self. It takes place over the course of one night, at a wake where five people meet. The pain, anger and bitterness of two older gay women emerge when dueling with younger gay women, one a transsexual. Jones told us that ‘humour ripples throughout and emerges as the saving force…the play hopefully will inspire.’
The play is directed by Elaine Hudson, last seen in Angels in America at the New Theatre.
The Girls will show at Tap Theatre in Sydney from February 23rd -25th, 2012. Tickets $15. Visit tapgallery.org.au for more.
