Newtown Festival celebrates the LGBT community.
On the 9th of November, surrounded by friends, family, and well wishers, a lucky couple will be given the opportunity to declare their love in the intimate setting of the main stage at the Newtown Festival. After the proposal, the couple will be treated to a lavish gift pack provided by the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre.
Under the theme of “Do you Dare to Declare… Your Love”, couples from across the Republic and surrounds are invited to apply via the Newtown Festival website, come along to the festival, and celebrate their love with the thousands expected to attend.
The Newtown Republic supports same-sex marriage and believes that being able to marry the person you love is a fundamental human right.
“The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre supports the GLBT community; a community we have a long history of engaging with at the centre,” said Sue Andersen, Festival Director. “We wanted to use the Festival to show our support for marriage equality and to send a clear voice to the wider community that it’s time for change.”
In addition to the Newtown Festival on the 9th of November, local businesses are being asked to join in the spirit of the Festival by hosting an event for Newtown Festival Week to be held from 1st to 9th November. A number of GLBT events will be held including:
- Tokyo Sing Song has invited Aaron Manhattan to host Wednesday night karaoke on the 5th of November at The Malborough Hotel
- Newtown Hotel’s queer night, Snapback, will be turned over to a special Newtown Festival Edition
Entry to the Newtown Festival is by gold coin donation, with all funds raised going directly to the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre to support the vital work it does with disadvantaged members of the local community.
