This double arts bill, consisting of Love in the Time of Sexting and The Party, is essential lesbian Mardi Gras viewing.
The Ultimate Lesbian Double Feature (pun intended) is a double bill consisting of Love in the Time of Sexting and The Party. The first is a play that explores what historical lesbian figures such as Sappho and Virginia Woolf may have sexted to their lovers – had sexting been around during their time. The second is a lesbian twist on 1950s American instructional videos on how to prepare the perfect dinner party.
Written by emerging playwright Zoe Brinnand and directed by the talented Lucy Hotchin, respectively, The Ultimate Lesbian Double Feature is expected to be a hit of the 2016 Mardi Gras festival program.
Imagine if we didn’t have Emily Dickinson’s letters to her love and sister-in-law Susan Gilbert? Or Virginia Wolf’s letters to Vita Sackville-West? What if they’d only sent sexts? That is exactly what the play explores.
The Party is another comedy that turns tradition on its pretty little head. What if homosexuality had been mainstream in the 1950s? It would have thrown the perfect dinner party, of course! From party favours to games, your Fairy Butch Mother has it covered.
The Ultimate Lesbian Double Feature sold out each of its shows for Midsumma at La Mama in Melbourne, including two extra shows which were added to the season.
