The Australian Greens plan to launch their LGBTIQ policy platform in Sydney next week. Senator Robert Simms, The Greens' spokesperson on sexuality, will be joined by NSW LGBTIQ candidates Sue Virago, Dejay Toborek and Michaela Sherwood to discuss The Greens' suite of LGBTIQ policies to promote inclusive communities.
Senator Simms highlighted The Greens' proud history of standing with LGBTIQ communities. He noted that The Greens were the first party in Australia to campaign for marriage equality, and have worked towards ending discrimination based on sexuality and gender identity.
“We’ve stood up against conservative attacks on LGBTIQ people in all their forms,” he said.
The policies in question aim to improve inclusiveness, promote awareness, and stamp out sexuality and gender identity-based discrimination.
Senator Simms noted that there is much still to be done in this area.
“From fighting the costly and divisive plebiscite to defending the essential Safe Schools program to ensuring Australians have access to PrEP, there’s lots to be done,” he said.
