Ellen Page joins OITNB screenwriter Lauren Morelli in the remake of the queer classic
It’s happening TOTC fans, Netflix is officially reviving Armistead Maupin’s classic as a 10-episode series due out in 2019. (…and both Page and Morelli are IN)
Based on the books written by Maupin, this next chapter – Armistead Maupin’s Tales Of The City – follows Mary Ann (Laura Linney), who returns home to San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter, Shawna (played by Page) and ex-husband Brian, 20 years after leaving them behind to pursue her career.
Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann returns home to her chosen family and is quickly drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis) and the residents of the fabled, 28 Barbary Lane.

Maupin is the author of the nine-volume series of books Tales Of The City, which – based in 1970s San Francisco – have become big, fat queer classics.
Orange Is The New Black writer Lauren Morelli, who met wife Samira Wiley on the set of OITNB, will serve as showrunner, executive producer and writer alongside author Armistead Maupin who will be executive producer of the series.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new brand-new incarnation of Tales”, Maupin said in a statement to Netflix.
“It’s set in present-day San Francisco with all the joys and complications that might suggest for the residents of 28 Barbary Lane.
“Mrs. Madrigal’s tenants, both old and new, will be entangled in delicious new adventures and ever-expanding possibilities for love.”
Too excited to not post this. Coming to Netflix in 2019! (Sorry for the side eye, Ellen)

Morelli added: “The magical, vivid world that Armistead Maupin built in Tales Of The City is one that offered so many – particularly the LGBTQ+ community – a home for the first time.
“For many, Tales was the first time they saw themselves on screen.
“I am humbled to now find my own home within Tales and to continue telling Armistead’s stories.”
We can’t wait for #TOTC2019, people.
