Queer Young Thing is a 13 part weekly series that delves into what it means to be young and queer in Australia today.
Hosted by JOY radio personality Dylan Adler, each episode explores topics that affect the youth of today. Hot issues, such as religion, social media and bullying, coming out, and transitioning between genders, are dissected through panel discussions, short film-reviews, and engaging interviews.
Participants in Queer Young Thing, who include a diverse range of youth, including footballer Jason Ball, dismember the issues with more seasoned professionals from a variety of community organisations such as Cyber Safety Solutions, Head Space, the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard, and La Trobe and Deakin Universities. The show has been made possible with the assistance of the Community Broadcasting Foundation.
Remy Scholten, President of Bent TV is tremendously enthused by the commitment of the participants to the program “This is an important program for the community” he said.
“Depression and anxiety are among the most common health problems experienced by young people. Queer young people are amongst the highest at risk of suicide.” Queer Young Thing is a light-hearted but information packed attempt at decreasing that risk.
