Move over Blue Is The Warmest Color. A new lesbian web series with a quintessentially French twist has created much buzz in Canada and now in the U.S. for the Tribeca Film Festival. Féminin/Féminin, a dramatic comedy about the lives and loves of six Montreal women in their 20s, filmed in French and with English subtitles, gives us the real French lesbian fix.
Written and directed by Chloé Robichaud and produced for a website geared and dedicated to lesbians called Lez Spread The Word, the Féminin/Féminin web series incorporates two different styles of filmmaking in cinéma vérité style.
“Féminin/Féminin presents a series of tableaus of women aged 18 to 42,” says Robichaud.
If you are looking for something similar to our precious L Word, this isn’t the show for you. Robichaud wanted to avoid the stereotypes and clichés most lesbian series thrust upon us. Féminin/Féminin proves to be different and breaks new ground.
“This is a series about how women love,” says Robichaud. “It’s daily life in eight ten-minute capsules. I hope that, in these women, many will see their own reality reflected, whether they are homosexual or not.”
Féminin/Féminin is one of 12 projects selected for the Tribeca N.O.W. (New Online Work) showcased at New York’s prestigious Tribeca Film Festival on April 16.
Since the launch of season one in June 2014, the series has had nearly one million views and continues reverberating around the Web (ICI Tou. tv, Studio 4 in France) and festival circuit.
