The 23rd Mardi Gras Film Festival program has been revealed.

Start clearing your schedule for this year’s Mardi Gras Film Festival presented by Queer Screen. This year promises to bring more films, more venues, more international guests and more filmmaker events.

A fantastic array of Australian content will be screened as four Australian films are on this year’s schedule.

The Firefly:

This Colombian film features two stunning lead actresses and evocative scenes of gothic and magic realism. With a dollop of adorableness and a dash of downright sexiness, The Firefly is one of the most engaging films of this year’s festival.

Starting From…Now!

An Australian web series that has made it big. Hit online drama, Starting From… Now! follows the tangled, increasingly complicated lives of four inner-city Sydney lesbians as they struggle to find a place where they belong and perhaps even find someone to love along the way.

Lesbian Shorts

Returning to the festival after a four-year absence, Queer Screen is excited to be showcasing a great collection of girls’ shorts. From sweet coming-of-age films to thrilling docu-dramas, Lesbian Shorts has plenty to please every film-lover.

My Queer Career

My Queer Career, Australia’s largest LGBTIQ film prize, is always one of the highlights of the Mardi Gras Film Festival and this year, eight fantastic films will be competing for a prize pool of over $14,000 in cash and support. The winner of Best Film will also be automatically entered into the world-renowned Iris Prize competition, which has recently turbocharged the careers of three Australian filmmakers.
