Rainbow Families will be hosting its annual Making Rainbow Families seminar on 21 May in Sydney as well as virtually
Rainbow Families, the Australian charity that works to reduce discrimination and disadvantage faced by children of LGBTQ+ parents and provides a support network for existing and future LGBTQ+ parents and carers, today announced the Making Rainbow Families seminar is back. Making Rainbow Families is the only LGBTQ+ specific program for intended parents in Australia. The full-day program is designed to assist LGBTQ+ people with specific and inclusive advice about the multiple ways they can become parents. The event will take place in Sydney on Saturday, May 21 but will also be available to community members in other states virtually through Livestream.
Since 2016, Making Rainbow Families has provided clarity and confidence to hundreds of LGBTQ+ community members across the country considering starting a family by providing a jam-packed program of quality education, inspiration and community connection.
The seminar will include educational sessions from leading experts on topics including:
- “Are you ready to become a Parent” with Jacqueline McDiarmid, a Couple and Family Therapist
- Fostering and open adoption options with Barnardos
- IUI, IVF and accessing donor sperm with leading expert Associate Prof. Peter Illingworth from IVF Australia
- Home insemination with Jaz, a queer, endorsed registered midwife
- Domestic Surrogacy options with Anna from Surrogacy Australia
- International Surrogacy options with Sam Everingham from Growing Families
- Trans/gender diverse options with leading expert Dr Bronwyn Devine from IVF Australia
- Legal considerations for LGBTQ+ parents with Amy McGowan from KMJ Family Law
- “Tell them from me” – a panel discussion featuring LGBTQ+ parents and their children
Scott Brunelle, Rainbow Families Board Co-Chair said, “Rainbow Families is looking forward to welcoming more LGBTQ+ intended parents at this year’s seminar. Being a gay dad myself, I understand how challenging and overwhelming it is to navigate the plethora of information when LGBTQ+ people consider parenthood. Not knowing where to start or feeling alone in the process can become serious deterrents to going on that journey. On top of delivering everything they need to know and all the options available to them, the Making Rainbow Families seminar provides an opportunity to connect with a safe and inclusive community where they get to share their journey with other LGBTQ+ intended parents.
“The seminar has become a highly anticipated event in the community, and for many participants, it is the start of lifelong friendships for themselves and their children”.
