Research that examines ‘mothering’ experiences of women
This is an oral history project investigating the experiences of single and/or lesbian mothers in Victoria. This is an inclusive study examining a range of ‘mothering’ experiences of women who have been or continue to be involved in raising children regardless of biological relationship. The focus of the study is on the period from 1970 – the present.
Participant criteria:
- Must be single and/or lesbian ‘mothers’
- All ages and experiences welcome
- Available for 60 – 90 minutes interview
- Based in Victoria

Participation is entirely voluntary and all interviews are confidential. This study has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee at Macquarie University
About the researcher: Christin Quirk is a Higher Degree Research candidate at Macquarie University. She has completed a Master of Philosophy examining past adoption practices at the Royal Women’s Hospital. Her work informed the hospital’s apology to mothers who lost a child to adoption. She continues to examine marginalised experiences of mothering.
