A special Healthy Ageing Open Day for LGBTI people
A special Healthy Ageing Open Day for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and/or Intersex (LGBTI) people is being held on Saturday, June 14th, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, at the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre, Enmore Park, Black Street, Marrickville.
Outrageous Ageing project officer, Sujay Kentlyn, said “We will be offering free activities including Aqua aerobics, Group Fitness, Tai Chi, and Yoga.”
“There will be free seminars on Healthy Ageing, Nutrition and Healthy Weight, and forming an LGBTI Ageing Action Group, and free afternoon tea will be provided.”
“We will also be screening the Award-winning documentary Gen Silent at 2:30 pm”, Kentlyn said.
“The film follows the lives of six lesbian, gay and transgender older people over the course of a year as they deal with ageing and illness, and make decisions about their care needs.”

The Healthy Ageing Open Day is part of aged care service provider Evergreen Life Care’s LGBTI Elders’ Wellbeing Project, Outrageous Ageing.
Outrageous Ageing has partnered with Marrickville Council, Leichhardt Council, the City of Sydney, The Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre and The Gender Centre Inc. to provide an opportunity for LGBTI people to find out about healthy ageing and activities that will help them sustain independent and active lives as they get older.
“We are so excited about this collaboration,” Kentlyn said, “because it allows us to bring together professional facilitators and a range of resources in this ground-breaking event.”
“We invite LGBTI people of all ages, their friends, families, carers, and anyone interested in healthy ageing to join us for a fun and informative time on Saturday”.
