The next exhibition to feature at Inner West Council’s Chrissie Cotter Gallery highlights the athleticism, friendships and sense of belonging embodied by the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club (FBFC).
The FBFC is the largest lesbian soccer club in the world. The exhibition is comprised of photos captured over the last 10 years, taken by photographer Kerry Fluhr.
After founding member and artist, Linda Patterson passed away in 2009, some of the original members decided to grant an annual ‘creative’ award in her name. In 2018, Kerry was one of the first two recipients.
“I’ve been a member of the club for 10 years, and I’ve been photographing the club for 10 years,” Kerry said.
The 100 or so A4 photos include action shots on the field and “all the activities and events around the games, like pub nights, presentation nights, the Fair Day booth and the Mardi Gras Parade,” Kerry said.
“FBFC creates a sense of community and belonging. Anyone can play, no experience is required. The Flying Bats has been a key social outlet for me and I wanted to give back to the club,” Kerry said.
