The Seattle Lesbian takes leadership role.

Seattle Pride has announced that award–winning journalist, Sarah Toce, is the new Communications Director and member of the Board of Directors of Seattle Pride.

Toce, who has written frequently for Curve and appeared in its pages as one of the pioneering voices in lesbian media, has received many lesbian accolades over the years: she was named one of GO Magazine’s Red Hot Entrepreneurs of 2014, she reported on the Windy City Times’ AIDS @ 30 series, which won the prestigious Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club, and was nominated for a national Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Award, in the same category with The New York Times and The Boston Globe.

But Toce is perhaps best known as the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of Seattle’s only lesbian newspaper – The Seattle Lesbian, which, in its first year alone, reached a threshold of one million readers on a global scale. In 2012, the Seattle Lesbian was a distinguished recipient of the McCormick Foundation’s New Media Women Entrepreneurs Award.

As a journalist, Sarah Toce has interviewed and profiled many of the world’s most influential players ranging from high-level politicians to A-list celebrities, health experts, and key civil rights advocates and her work is regularly featured in Huffington Post, Windy City Times, and other respected national publications. In 2012, Toce also contributed to the book, Gay Press, Gay Power: The Growth of LGBT Community Newspapers in America. Outside of journalism, Toce is a tirless supporter of the eattle LGBT community, often spearheading events, outreach and initiatives such as Seattle Women’s Pride, and others.
