A great rainy day or beach book that will make you laugh out loud.

Scaredy Cat by Robin Alexander is a fun romantic comedy featuring horror novelist Blake Taylor, who has more fears than one would expect from someone who makes her living scaring others, and plumber Quinn Scott. Blake is on a sabbatical of sorts in small-town Louisiana. On the advice of her therapist, she's left her agent and family back in New York City to work on her new book, as well as to try to overcome a few of her devastating phobias.

Quinn has been hired to take her wherever she needs to go and to generally be available if needed. This proves to be a more daunting task than she had imagined, since Blake is terrified of pretty much everything. Quinn quickly decides that what Blake really needs is someone to help her get over her fears. The resulting tasks and challenges leave Quinn bruised, Blake feeling more confident, and the reader laughing.

The fun starts quickly and kept us highly entertained until the very end. There are many slapstick comedy moments and the author did a fantastic job of creating the movie in our heads with her descriptions. The scene with Ester the Chicken is one you won't soon forget.

If you're looking for serious literary fiction, this definitely isn't the one for you. The writing is nowhere near perfect; there are some typos and other editing issues in addition to some relationships that could have been fleshed out quite a bit more. But for us, those things were easily overlooked because the story is just so damn fun to read. It's a great rainy day or beach book that will make you laugh out loud.
