Section II Launches with Classic Content and New Seed and Spark CrowdFunding Campaign To Help Provide #BetterRepresentation for Queer Women in Film and Popular Culture
Section II (http://www.sectionii.com), a Benefit Corporation (B-Corp) and multi-platform network that acquires, creates, and distributes curated Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LBTQ) content, today announced the launch of a Seed and Spark crowdfunding campaign (www.seedandspark.com/studio/section-ii) and the official launch of SectionII.com. The goal of the crowdfunding campaign is to raise $25,000 to help further the company’s development plans and meet the fiduciary and social efforts they have committed to as a registered B-Corp. “Section II” of the Motion Picture Production Code outlawed lesbian characters in film until 1968. The team from Section II is reclaiming its namesake as the new, premier outlet for relevant filmmakers and audiences alike.
In support of #BetterRepresentation for queer women in film and popular culture, Section II has also forged an alliance with WolfeVideo(http://www.wolfevideo.com) to present a selection of the distributor’s 80+ lesbian-themed films on SectionII.com. Wolfe is a worldwide leader in mainstreaming films with gay content.
“The gay market, and particularly females within it, has been under-represented on screen throughout the history of film,” said Allie Esslinger, Founder, Section II. “Our goal is better representation of queer women, and we’re working in film because it’s our passion. What better way to kick off our official launch and Seed and Spark campaign than with one of the trailblazers in queer film distribution? We are proud to have the power of the Wolfe library behind us and excited to exhibit their films to our growing fan base.”
"We are thrilled to be partnering with section II to bring the Wolfe library to an expanding audience of LGBT consumers and supporters of our community," said Wolfe founder and CEO Kathy Wolfe. “The legacy of our library coupled with Section II’s platform is a perfect match as we all work together to increase the visibility of truly gay characters and real-life situations in film. This is the continuation of ongoing progress in our ever-evolving community.”
Section II focuses on three specific markets. For consumers it’s a destination to discover and watch LBTQ content with contemporary context and functionality. For filmmakers it’s a distribution option that helps to create a fan base in conjunction with an audience for content, while also creating a contemporary partnership that keeps filmmakers front and center in the distribution plan and revenue model. And for brands, Section II provides a chance to market to a highly targeted, more educated and wealthy demographic with a propensity for brand loyalty and evangelism.
