Sugar Bomb! Is about to explode onto the scene.
If you haven’t heard of Sugar Bomb! you’re about to find your newest guilty pleasure. The former Bostonian-newly-Brooklyn-based grunge-pop trio known as Sugar Bomb! has made quite a wave. Managing to find their own sound was no problem when drawing from influences like Hole, Paramore, Green Day, and No Doubt. The trio just released their highly anticipated single “Kiss Me” off their upcoming self-titled full length due out this spring. So keep an eye out.
LOTL was lucky enough to ask Kat Hamilton, the lead singer, a couple of questions.
If you could do a collaboration with any artist who would it be?
Personally, I would love to do a duet with Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! It could be Against Bomb! Sugar Me! She seems like a total sweetheart and the run that band has had, mirrors my career goals for Sugar Bomb!
The album cover for “Kiss Me” is quite interesting where did the inspiration for that come from?
We knew we wanted to have a pie fight because the music really sounds like a pie fight to us. That “Kiss Me” shot took place after we had been throwing pies for a while and my roommate’s dog, Jolie, kept running into the shoot. After looking through shots, we knew that the puppy shot was “the one”. It represents the quintessential Sugar Bomb! humour, literally “tongue in cheek”.
If you were having a movie made about your band who would you cast as the members?
It would be Sugar Bomb! Starring Ellen Page, Aaron Eckhart, Jason Schwartzman and Paul Rudd. Wes Anderson would probably direct it!
What is your dream venue to play?
In the near future, my dream venue would be 924 Gilman in Berkeley, California. It’s where Green Day got its start and where I fell in love with punk rock. I grew up near the Gilman and it would be very sentimental for me if we played there. Very full circle.
