The Department of Education teams up with Minus 18 and Safe Schools Coalition to encourage inclusion.
Funded by the Australian federal governments Department of Education and commissioned by LGBTI youth group Minus 18 and Safe Schools Coalition, All Of Us is the first practical teaching kit of its kind.
All Of Us is an educational resource created specifically to support teachers in educating and promoting students’ understanding of gender and sexual diversity.
The program is designed to ensure that any teacher, even ones that have never taught these topics, can pick up All Of Us resources and be able to confidently lead their students in lessons.
These new resources were developed by teachers in response to a growing increase of educators asking for “additional support in the classroom to help teach topics of gender diversity, sexual diversity and intersex.”
All Of Us consists of seven videos and a workbook. The videos are closed captioned creating an inclusive learning environment for every student, even ones with hearing impairments.
The videos depict many different scenarios and explore how homophobia and transphobia impact students and schools.
The National Director for Safe Schools Coalition said, “All Of Us will make a real difference to how students across Australia understand each other and the world around them.”
She added, “Introducing gender and sexual diversity and intersex issues into the classroom, this comprehensive unit guide for teachers shows the real-life experience of young people in Australia, teachers and students create the kind of space we all want to be in, where all members of the school community can be themselves and to really feel good about it.”
The program will be included in the health and physical education curriculum and is available to download for all schools, both public and private.
