Transgender people are being given a platform to seek free legal advice and support for a range of legal issues relating to their transgender status.
On 10 September 2018, Inner City Legal Centre (ICLC) and Dentons will launch a pilot of Australia’s first Transgender Legal Service dedicated to providing transgender clients with support and free legal advice for a range of legal issues relating to their transgender status. This is an Australian first initiative.
The range of legal issues that the service will provide advice on will include:
- Fines
- Employment
- Discrimination
- Special Medical Procedure applications to the Family Court of Australia
- Assistance in regard to drafting wills, power of attorney, enduring guardianship
- Divorce, separation and parenting
- Name and gender change advice/services
- Criminal and AVO advice and representation for especially vulnerable transgender clients on a low income
Who is this service for?
This service is for individuals who identify as transgender or their families in the case of young people who are transitioning.
About the Transgender Legal Service
The service will run from 10 September 2018 and will be held every second Monday from 2.00 pm.
