This Saturday, The Veronicas are set to join upwards of ten thousand people at the Rally for Marriage Equality in Brisbane.
The Veronicas, who have been outspoken supporters of Marriage Equality, and whose latest hit ‘If You Love Someone is an anthem to equality, will be addressing the huge crowd gathered on Saturday in the centre of Brisbane City.
Equal Love Brisbane will be hosting the event which kicks off at 1 pm in Queens Park. Rally goers will hear speeches from celebrities and respected members of the LGBTI community.
As well as The Veronicas, speakers will include; Steven Oliver, star of ABC’s ‘Black Comedy’, Stephen Page, a family lawyer who specialises in LGBTI cases and was the most recent recipient of the Queens Ball ‘Activist of the Year’, Renowned local musician Candice Bliss plus more.
The rally will end with a march through the city centre which is likely to shut the city down.
Equal Love Brisbane Convenor Jess Payne spoke about the rally and why this demonstration will be the biggest seen in the campaign’s history. “Since the recent victories in Ireland and America, momentum has grown in Australia for the Government to remove discrimination from the Marriage Act. A clear majority of Australians support this issue and are coming out on Saturday to put pressure on the politicians. The rally will be taking place the weekend before Parliament resumes, with a cross-party bill for Marriage Equality expected to be tabled.”
The Facebook event for the rally has over 8,000 attendings, making it on track to be the biggest protest for LGBTI rights Brisbane has ever seen.
