Equal Love, an LGBTI group dedicated to campaigning for equal relationship rights in Australia, has been rewarded with two gongs at the recent ALSO Awards in Melbourne.
The ALSO awards celebrate the work of community leaders, volunteers, educators and the entertainment community at a gala event.
Lesbian Ali Hogg from Equal Love won Most Outstanding Volunteer, and the group won Most Outstanding Community Campaign or Initiative. Equal Love rallies have been held across the country this year.
Midsumma, Melbourne’s premier LGBTI festival, won the Most Outstanding Community Event award just after announcing a new site for its flagship event, Carnival and T Dance. in Melbourne’s major events site, Birrarung Marr, across the river from the previous venue Alexandra Gardens.
Other ALSO winners included Rocco D’Amore (Most Popular Drag King Performer), lesbian event Pinkalicious (Most Popular One Nighter or Alternative Venue) and Yana Alana and Tha Paranas (Most Outstanding Artist or Group of the Year).
