The July issue of Marie Claire magazine supports Marriage Equality with an ‘I Do’ campaign backed by Get Up and the Seven network’s Sunrise.
Marie Claire magazine, GetUp! and the Seven Network’s Sunrise and The Morning Show join forces to highlight the issue of Marriage Equality.
The July issue of Marie Claire magazine features celebrities such as Jennifer Hawkins, Megan Gale, Dr Chris Brown and Alex Perry, among others posing in white ‘I do’ shirts. The magazine has even offered up its cover to the cause.
Jackie Frank, Marie claire publisher and editor, commented: “At Marie claire, we believe every couple has the right to wed. The time to act on same-sex marriage is long overdue. Same-sex couples deserve to enjoy the commitment, comforts and benefits of being legally wed; This is a basic human rights issue.”
On Thursday, June 7, Marie claire and Sunrise will hold an event at Sydney’s Martin Place and Melbourne’s Bourke St Mall, asking the general public to sign a petition which political action group GetUp! will present in Federal Parliament. Those unable to attend the event can add their support by signing up online.
“Opinion polls have consistently shown overwhelming support for marriage equality in Australia, but our Federal politicians aren’t listening to the general public,” GetUp!’s national director Simon Sheikh said. “We need to communicate that this isn’t going away clearly. It’s time to end marriage discrimination in Australia for good.”
The ‘I do’ Marie claire issue is on sale from Wednesday, June 6.
