Multiple South Australia Councils have decided to show support for the LGBTIQ community.
Alexandrina Council convened on July 20 to decide whether the rainbow Pride flag should be flown in November during Adelaide’s Feast Festival.
Councillor Grant Gartrell says “I think this is supported by the community, and I am happy to support it.” Councillors were divided and the decision to display the flag came down to Mayor Keith Parkes’ vote. This decision comes on the heels of Marion Council’s decision in June to permanently fly the flag outside of the council office.
Councillor Madeleine Walker stated that by displaying the flag permanently, Marion Council is “a symbolic show of support for the local LGBTIQ population.” and that it is important to show this support.
