The Executive Board of ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association has decided to move ILGA’s operations from Brussels to Geneva as from Spring 2014.
This historic step will allow ILGA to increase and improve its advocacy work at the United Nations, by making more extensive use of its consultative status with the UN ECOSOC Council and by adding new forces to the staff already based in Geneva in rue de la Navigation on the premises of Dialogai, for the benefit of all its member organizations and the global LGBTI movement.
Gloria Careaga, ILGA Co-Secretary General said: “Moving to Geneva is very exciting, for ILGA and its membership being closer to the UNHRC will bring much more opportunities to understand better the international dynamics within intergovernmental negotiations, but mainly will indeed bring our membership the opportunity to be much more active in the UNHRC work”.
Azusa Yamashita, ILGA Co-Secretary General said: “More ILGA members have been engaged in and are interested in advocacy work at the UN than ever. ILGA has been providing them with assistance. I believe having our operations in Geneva will help ILGA and our members work more effectively and have a positive impact on the international LGBTI movement.”
