The L Word May Be Having A Reboot

Try not to freak out, but a new Tweet from the show’s creator seems to suggest a reboot of the L Word!

Talking, laughing, loving, breathing.

If you didn’t just sing that really fast in your head, you’re kidding yourself.

The L Word, even with all its faults (its treatment of Moira/Max!, “Love you Mama B,” JENNY) was peak lesbian TV drama.

A show revolving around the glamorous, crazy lives of a group of impossibly good looking LA lesbians, who, for the most part, didn’t get killed off (RIP Dana), The L Word provided us with an entrée into a world we will probably never know, but also with real representations of the issues that we face as queer women in our day to day live

On May 21, at 3:32am Australian time, The L Word’s creator, Ilene Chaiken, Tweeted this:

That’s right, she wrote, “So excited! Can’t wait…!” and tagged seven of our favourite L Word stars, Jennifer Beals (Bette), Kate Moennig (Shane), Leisha Hailey (Alice), Sarah Shahi (Carmen), Erin Daniels (Dana), Laurel Holloman (Tina) and Daniela Sea (Max), as well as the official L Word Twitter account.

Obviously, this is thrilling, no matter what it turns out to be – all of our ladies catching up for brunch would be enough to make us celebrate – but Chaiken’s decision to tag The L Word account too suggests that she is excited for more than just a social catch-up. There may, in fact, be an L Word reboot coming our way!

If this is the case, we guess that it might be a prequel (maybe with some CGI, as the actresses are all 8 years older!) to the show itself, as Erin Daniels, who played the gorgeous Dana, who tragically died in Season 3, is tagged in the Tweet, and Mia Kirshner, who played Jenny Schecter, is not. That being said, Kirshner doesn’t have an offical Twiiter account, so this omission may be a red herring.

Kate Moennig responded to the Tweet, saying “Can’t wait to be with my girls again!” but then added in another Tweet, “As far as I know, it’s not a reboot. For reunion inquiries, direct that to @Showtime ;)”

But then to add to the mystery, Jennifer Beals Tweeted, “I’m already laughing in anticipation… 😀 #TheLWord”.

And Sarah Shahi got in on the fun, too, Tweeting this:

What is the truth in all of this? Are we to look forward to a resurgence of one of the most iconic lesbian dramas of all time?

If it’s not a prequel, and just a new season with ghosts, will we get the answers we so crave? Who killed Jenny? Will Shane go to prison? Will Alice find someone as good as Dana?
